Robert Frost said it well: “Half the world is composed of people who have something to say but can’t, and the other half who have nothing to say and keep on saying it.”
We all talk, but relatively few partake of the deeper joy of mindful conversation. The needs for authentic, open, respectful connection and expression are fundamental to our species. Our ability to communicate has catapulted us to the top of the food chain. Our failures now threaten to toss us into chaos.
Mindful Conversation is the secret sauce that makes personal and professional relationships and networks click. To find satisfaction as individuals and to survive as a diverse, democratic society, we need to rediscover the art of Mindful Conversation. Mindful Conversatin may well be the most important life skill that you never studied in school. Whether you are looking for ways to revive a key relationship, to make new friends, to feel included, or to express yourself more completely, Mindful Conversation can help.
Mindful Conversation is the subject of this web site, of my book, (Mindful Conversation: Speak Openly, Connect Deeply, Live Joyously), of my classes, keynote talks, and private coaching.

In a small town on the west coast of Scotland, five-year-old Peter Gibb trades his soul to the devil in a futile attempt to win the approval of classmates, teachers and parents. Follow the story of Peter’s humorous but desperate struggle to find a way out of the dungeons of doubt. An insightful tale of lost and found, King of Doubt grips you with tension as it warms you with heart.
Anyone who has ever struggled with self-doubt or Imposter Syndrome will see themselves in this multiple-award-winning memoir that deftly explores a universal theme while relating one man’s journey from doubt to wonder. A book that will fill you with hope and promise, King of Doubt rivets your attention right to the final word, while the beauty of the language still sings long after the reading.

Don't forget you can ask for either book at your local bookstore!
With heartwarming candidness, Peter Gibb's memoir, “King of Doubt,” documents not only the events in his life, but the interior journey of his heart and mind that threads them together. At times hilarious, at times traumatic, often poignant, his story invites the reader to look at childhood through his own childhood eyes, to struggle with him through years of awkward adolescence and stumble into adulthood feeling confused and ill-equipped. Most of us have probably looked out at the world from similar interior perspectives, but few express such struggles out loud. “King of Doubt” is a most human story of one man's journey from childhood's scattered pieces, to breakthrough insights, triumph and hope. It is a gift to read.
I love reading memoir and Peter Gibb's "King of Doubt" did not disappoint. I first became acquainted with Peter when I joined an online presentation of his book on the Memoir Writers National Association website. I liked what he had to say about writing and decided to order his book from Amazon. It is beautifully written. And it's a page-turner too! I loved his descriptions of early school days where he struggled to fit in and feel accepted. As he matured and went to college, then traveled the world, he still felt like he didn't quite measure up. Something was missing. His journey into self-awareness certainly struck a chord with me and I could so relate to his anguish. This book is honest, revealing and insightful. Thank you, Peter, for allowing us to travel that journey with you. You're not done yet. I look forward to reading your next endeavor. You've certainly found a fan here. Bravo!
You wouldn’t think that “doubt” and “depression” would be the subjects of a good read, but Peter Gibb makes it so. With self-deprecating humor and brutal self-revelation, Peter weaves together a memoir of a colorful life with his struggle with chronic depression. Peter is able to recall and describe with skillful honesty the highs and lows of every stage of his life in a compelling way that makes you want to keep flipping the pages to find out how it all turns out. I highly recommend King of Doubt not only for those who may be struggling with depression but also for anyone who wants to lose him or herself in a fascinating story of self-discovery.
Mindful Conversation is on the surface a Primer for how to communicate respectfully and authentically. The author, Peter Gibb, accomplishes this with ease and clarity with an accessible and personal style that characterizes all of his writing. The overlay of mindful presence and balance to the challenges of communicating in highly charged and tense times is a brilliant solution to our emerging chronic problems: How can I communicate honestly and respectfully? How can I listen and understand others' when I am uncomfortable with what they are saying?
Mindful Conversation is organized in a way that it can be used as narrative, a personal development tool or a reference on selected topics. Peter did a great job of interspersing content, suggested reflections, ideas for experimentation and even entertaining cartoons.
Mindful Conversation, underneath all this, is also a beautiful and caring invitation into self-awareness and personal growth, drawing on the well established mindfulness practices and traditions. Peter's compassionate and mature perspective on how we can all come home to ourselves while becoming closer to those important to us is a gift and worth the price of the book. Whether you are a communications expert or a self-help amateur, this book will be enjoyable, enlightening and important.
Well done, Peter!
Mindful Conversation is a great tool for everyone as well as a great read. Whether you are introverted or extroverted, tongue-tied around others or the life of the conversational party, there is something here to improve your conversational style. To begin with, the author, Peter Gibb, presents the information in a warm and lively conversational manner that made me want to talk to him in person. His approach is warm and human, never talking down to the reader or in a way that makes you feel "less than." At the same time, he finds ways to tell you how to enjoy your interactions and feel better about your own conversational acumen. He does this through a wealth of personal knowledge and stories about his own experience so that the reader feels as if they were in a deep conversation with him. There are practical tools and next steps in every chapter as well which I found quite helpful. The reader is led into deepening insights in how to carry on a conversation on any level with self-assurance and empathy.
I highly recommend this book... it is both deeply helpful and a fun read.
Peter Gibb's timely book is a practical, insightful guide to making conversations count -- so as to bring people together in humane and meaningful ways -- a very useful antidote to the disconnection which pervades our toxic culture -- his C.A.R.E model (Curiosity, Authenticity, Respect, and Empathy) and his Mindful I statements, if followed attentively, will virtually guarantee a high-quality conversation -- and, if you'd like to open a conversation in a fresh and unconventional way, Peter offers some superb questions to do just that --
Highly recommended for anyone wishing to add substance and depth to their relationships --
